WinMySQL Professional - Terminology

In this documentation, terminology used is explained below :

Activity LED

It is the led located at the left bottom of the main screen. It displays wether WinMySQL Professional is currently connected to a database or not. It lights green when a connection is active, red otherwise.

This led also indicates if WinMySQL Professional is ready or not : when it's working, the led lights yellow.

And then, this led indicates if the «prepare printing» engine is working. During print preparation, it lights blue.

When WinMySQL Professional waits for a manual intervention from a human operator during a network access or an hard drive access, then the led blinks (red/yellow or red/green), for instance when it requires an additional parameter or when it crashes.

Cell

WinMySQL Professional displays outputs for commands or queries in a grid. A grid is composed by columns and rows. Each column represents a field or a database table and each row represents a record in this database table. So, the intersection between a row and a column represents the data.

The cell is the grid component which displays the data. In some cases (such as blob), the cell displays only a part of a data. With WinMySQL Professional, cells are horizontally user sizeable but not vertically.

When a cell is selected (when it owns the focus), if the cell cursor is blue, it means that you are in edit mode : when you strike the «Enter» key, you obtain a cell zoom to modify the data.

Last query status bar

It is located at the bottom of the main screen. It replaces the «copyright bar» when a query generates outputs (typically «select» queries) to display the number of lines returned. It also displays the number of affected lines after a query such as «delete» or «update» when it is manually perfomed.

Menus

WinMySQL Professional uses numerous shortcuts to perform features (see also the «Shortcuts» section) but any of it can be accessed from a menu.

Output grid

It is the main component of WinMySQL Professional. As explained in the Cell paragraph, it displays the output of your queries or commands.

Once filled, you can export the grid to printer, to the main office automation softwares such as Microsoft® Excel® or to HTML format to put your query results on your web site.

The output grid can switch to an edit mode when it displays the content of a table (when it doesn't display a query result).

Scroll bars

When an output generated by a query or a command returns a lot of columns or a lot of rows, it is necessary to scroll vertically or horizontally to display the integrality of it. So, vertical or horizontal scroll bars appears automatically at the bottom and at the right or the output grid.

Title bar

The title bar of WinMySQL Professional displays a lot of informations according the context. For instance, it displays the active table, database and user when a connection is active on a table, etc ...
